Flock to Weekend Along the Farm Trails
Sonoma County Farms Open their Doors for a Special Fall Event
Sonoma County Farm Trails - Your connection to buying direct from the Farm - introduces their Annual Weekend Along the Farm Trails-Fall. On September 25 and 26, 2010, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., scores of Sonoma County farms will open their doors during fall harvest with a variety of fun and educational activities. With the Farm Trails Map & Guide in hand, the public can explore some of the counties finest agricultural treasures: from pumpkin farms, dairies, local honey, apples, melons, pears, organic tomatoes and fall produce to handcrafted woven products, fresh flowers and dried goods.
Visiting farms and meeting the farmers who produce your food is a growing trend that gives people the opportunity to build relationships with local food producers and to see how and where their food is grown. Stomp into the fields see it growing and then take home fresh picked produce from the farm stands. Families enjoy life-on-the-farm experiences with horses, goats, chickens, cows, llamas and honeybees. Fall is also pumpkin season and a great time to visit one of the many pumpkin patches along the Farm Trail. Many farms will offer informative tours and visitors can meet with knowledgeable farmers as they share their lifes work.
Throughout the weekend, many farms offer tastings of their crops fresh off the vine, prepared in family recipes or preserved in the jar. Participating restaurants will provide special menus created from fresh local ingredients. Local Farm Markets will be offering market tours showcasing Farm Trails products. Save the date's September 25th & 26th. Load up the car with family and friends for only $25 for 2 days of Farm Touring, and don't forget to leave room to take home some of your fresh food treasures. Farm Passes go on sale Sept 1st at farmtrails.org or by calling 1-888-255-1223. It will be a weekend of fun, adventure, great food and learning about Sonoma County agriculture along the Farm Trail.
